Support Stories in Mind: Active Engagement through Storytelling

We need your help to raise the funds necessary to develop a new program at The Frazier called Stories in Mind: Active Engagement Through Storytelling. The program has received ArtsMatch funding, with matching funds made possible by LG&E/KU in partnership with the Fund for the Arts.

When we no longer have the past, we have the present moment. Stories in Mind uses the process of crafting stories to engage adults, primarily seniors, with significant memory loss and allow them to express themselves without fear of being wrong, without restrictions on what can and cannot be said, and without the expectation of recalling memories. The process of creation is one that reflects who we are in the present moment. By creating stories together – even entirely new and fabricated ones – we will build a program to assist people struggling with dementia and their families to refocus on special moments and enjoying their time together.

The Frazier History Museum’s uniquely qualified teaching artists will work with four (4) different nursing care centers in the Metro Louisville region to pilot 12 creative personal interactions with family and caretakers of individuals living with dementia. At the Frazier, our mission is “to ignite the human spirit with thoughtfully-crafted stories to spark curiosity about who we are and our connection to the future.” We are honored to have the opportunity to help spark as many special moments as possible for individuals with memory loss and their loved ones.
