Flashback

Coming: July 2024

Flashback: Kentucky Media Through the Years, a temporary exhibition will focus on the history of media in Kentucky and its impact on our lives. You will learn about how media changed and transformed over the years, from Kentucky’s first newspaper, the Kentucke Gazette, established in 1787, through the new digital media that encompass our lives today. The exhibition will showcase Kentucky’s first radio station, WHAS, and the first television station, WAVE, both out of Louisville. Flashback highlights big headlines from our Kentucky history, such as the assassination of Governor Goebel in 1900, the 1937 Flood, the 1974 Tornado, and the 2020 protests, and shows how news coverage of major events has evolved over time.  This exhibition takes a nostalgic look at all of the individuals and programs you loved watching and listening to, those you invited into your home and trusted as your news source. Flashback is designed to be engaging and entertaining for visitors of all ages and will feature interactive and multi-media installations. It will feature historic equipment, documents, and footage on loan from many of Louisville and Kentucky’s major media outlets.
