Happy Birthday, Kentucky!

  • Frazier History Museum 829 West Main Street Louisville, KY, 40202 United States (map)

Join us as the Frazier History Museum celebrates the 231st birthday of the Commonwealth on Saturday, June 3. Museum admission will be pay-what-you-wish from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be a fun day to learn and explore the state’s history in our Commonwealth exhibition and its pop culture in our Cool Kentucky exhibition. Be among the first to see new items on display in Cool Kentucky. Browse our shop for unique and Kentucky-centric products. We also have special programming for the entire family:

  • Pay-What-You-Wish Admission, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission is typically $14 (or free for museum members); however, on Saturday, the Frazier is waiving that fee and instead asking visitors to pay what they wish.

  • Tour of Entertaining Kentucky, 11 a.m. Director of exhibit ideation Casey Harden will lead a tour of the new Cool Kentucky gallery Entertaining Kentucky, where new objects from musicians Lily May Ledford, Tom T. Hall, and Jack Harlow are now on display.

  • Presentations of Kentucky Stories and Song, 11:30 & 2:30. Curator of guest engagement Mick Sullivan will present Kentucky Stories and Song, an engaging program designed to share stories of significant Kentuckians through pivotal moments, achievements, and music. Notable figures to be highlighted include inventor Garrett Morgan and banjoist Lily May Ledford, both of whom are featured in the Frazier’s Cool Kentucky exhibition. Shown historical images, audience members will make guesses about parts of each story. Mick will lead a performance of “Happy Birthday to You,” written and composed by Louisville sisters Patty and Mildred Hill, and “How Many Biscuits Can You Eat?”, a song Ledford performed at the White House for the Roosevelts and the King and Queen of England.

  • Sneak Peek at Science Center Collection, 1 p.m. Harden and collections manager Tish Boyer will offer visitors a behind-the-scenes peek at select objects obtained from the Science Center—most of which will likely not be on display again for a year! The tour will take place in the Second Floor Classroom.

  • Trivia Questions with Roving Reporter Ken Tucky. Communications and research specialist Simon Meiners will play the role of Ken Tucky, a plucky midcentury reporter who asks museum visitors questions about our beloved Commonwealth. Respondents who answer correctly will win prizes! Prizes include Museum Shop discounts, free admission tickets, and more.

  • Scavenger Hunt. Guests will get to partake in a self-guided scavenger hunt. Locations covered include some of the brand new additions to Cool Kentucky.

  • Special Kentucky Merchandise. The Frazier will sell special Kentucky-themed souvenirs, gifts, and merchandise in its Museum Shop!

We are where the world meets Kentucky. So let’s party!
