Upcoming Programs

Decades
Travel back in time with us as we pay a visit to the 70s, 80s, and 90s. From pet rocks to Titanic these day camps are sure to be pretty rad.

History Through the Arts
Each day this week we’ll focus on a different art discipline–painting, sculpture, music, theater, and film. We’ll host visiting artists for hands-on experiences, learn about the history and cultural influence of specific artists and art movements, and take mini-field trips around the block to explore Main Street art sites and museums.

Silver Screen Heroes
Calling anyone from an alternate universe! Every summer is loaded with blockbuster movies and superheroes, so it should come as no surprise that people have always loved a good hero or heroine story. This week we’ll find the balance between real world and fantasy as we meet Wizards, Jedis, Mutants and plenty of real people with amazing abilities

Around The World (In 5 Days)
Journey around the world without ever leaving downtown Louisville! The Frazier History Museum becomes your train station, airport, speed boat and hot air balloon as we go around the world in... 5 days! From Monkey's Eyebrow, KY to the Galápagos Islands, each day will take us to a new and exciting locale rich in history, culture, and intrigue.

Camp Takeover
Do you have what it takes to be in charge at the Frazier? We’ll spend this week learning what goes into all the ways our museum engages with the public. We’ll uncover behind-the-scenes secrets by taking basement-to-boardroom tours and by meeting with staff members in different museum departments. Each camper will work solo or in teams to create what we in the biz call an “engagement:” a historic interpretation, a game or craft, or a tour of their favorite exhibit. Campers will spend the week perfecting it before they run the show on Friday for the public–and for invited parents.

Legends & Folklores
“Once upon a time . . .” begins so many our favorite childhood stories. But what were these “times” really like? In this lighthearted camp we’ll play and create and imagine all day to catch the glimmer of truth behind the Pied Piper, a giant blue ox, swashbuckling pirates, and a princess and one pesky pea.

Spring Break Camp
“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant” said Anne Bradstreet, and this has certainly been a winter. If you’re feeling Mother Nature’s cold shoulder at the moment, you’re not alone. The Frazier History Museum is Dreaming of Spring when warm winds blow our way, flowers blossom from their slumber, and children’s laughter echoes in the galleries at Spring Break Camp.
For kids in grades 1st-5th

Camp Frazier Open House
Join us on February 8th for an open house all about seasonal camps at the Frazier. From 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, meet the education staff that will be leading our upcoming Spring Break and Summer camps and have your questions answered. Join a guided tour of the museum and see the exhibits and the stories that will be featured in camp activities. See a live musical history performance like the ones we present to children year-round. Then hang out for a game of mancala, build a Lego dinosaur in our education center, and meet Ponk, the Frazier Museum’s Axolotl. If you’ve been curious about camps at the Frazier Museum or dreaming of a way for your kids to spend an entire week playing and learning in the cultural tapestry and artistic bounty of these halls, then we hope you’ll join us.

Fall Break Camp
Let’s game this fall break! Join us for the whole week or by-the-day as we play our way through all sorts of non-digital games, puzzles, and activities. Frazier staff will lead some puzzle- and game-themed presentations, like “50 years of Dungeons & Dragons.” But mostly we’ll just be playing every day! All games are fair game—card games, board games, and even some tabletop role-playing games. We’ll play outside when the weather allows, and we’ll build box forts inside when it doesn’t. And our resident dungeon master Sarah J. will lead a mini-D&D campaign for brave and interested parties. We hope you can join us.

Zines & Comics Camp
We love printed art and media, so this week we’ll deep dive into the world of comic books, manga, newspaper comics, and zines. (A zine, pronounced ‘zeen,’ is a self-published magazine or pamphlet that springs out of artistic passion and self-expression.) In true zine fashion, we’ll start by reading and then get busy creating. With help from visiting artists, campers will write, draw, print, and collage their own writing and art. And at the end of the week, we’ll print our own collection to share with the group.

The Life Aquatic, with the Frazier
Let’s see where the river takes us. This week, we’ll explore the history, creatures, and lore of the Ohio River. We’ll look at life on the water, from shantyboats and pirate ships to Tori Murden’s transatlantic row boat. And we’ll look at life in the water, from giant catfish to the prehistoric creatures that lived in the ancient oceans that once covered Kentucky. With visits to our friends at the Belle of Louisville and the Science Center, this camp is sure to be a splash.

Camp Epic Fail
Behind every success there lies a great many do-overs. And often the failures are just as interesting! This week is dedicated to the failures that occurred on a spectacular level. From terrible inventions, stolen ideas, and military flops to hoaxes, fakes, and bumbling criminals, join us as we celebrate some of history’s most epic fails

This is a day camp - join us for one day or all five!

Frazier's Believe It or Not!
Did you know there is a word for the act of throwing someone out a window? (Defenestration.) Or that the mayor of NYC banned artichokes to fight the mob? Or that Abraham Lincoln was recognized by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1992? We can’t make this stuff up! Join us as we spend the week uncovering some of the past’s most unbelievable stories… as well as some of its biggest fakes and phonies! Mummy powder, mermaid hoaxes, petrified giants? Believe it or not, history still gets stranger.

Winter Break Camps 2024
Join us for Winter Break Camp as we ring in the New Year and celebrate winter traditions! We’re offering four days of camps during the first week of January. Join us for one day – or for all four – as we explore the season through stories, games, and art. We’ll recreate some wild New Year traditions (perhaps a Romanian New Years Bear Dance?). We’ll learn about winter throughout human history and the natural world. And we’ll fill out the days by checking out items from the activity library, doing themed art activities, and offering plenty of opportunities for free play.

Winter Break Camp Week Two: Artists Aplenty
December 27-30 – Artists Aplenty
Defined broadly, an artist is someone who is really good at what they do. This week, we’ll look at people who’ve broken boundaries, made discoveries, and left their mark on the world—whether they made art, or made something into an art!
Monday, 12/27: Adventurers
Tuesday, 12/28: Inventors
Wednesday, 12/29: Artists and Authors
Thursday, 12/30: Athletes

Winter Break Camp Week One: Decades
December 20-23 – Decades
Life hasn’t always been like it is now—or has it? Join us for a celebration of the unique and universal from a specific period in time. You’ll learn about the highs and the lows, the weird and the wonderful. It will be a fun time-travelling journey every step of the way!
Monday 12/20: 1660s
Tuesday 12/21: 1710s
Wednesday 12/22 – 1830s
Thursday, 12/23 – 1970s
