Step into a magical winter wonderland at the fifth annual Lights on Main, a special exhibition the Frazier is hosting in partnership with the nonprofit I Would Rather be Reading (IWRBR). From November 20 to January 6, the Frazier will be transformed into an enchanted holiday forest with three floors of trees beautifully decorated by local schools, organizations, families, and individuals.

Now on view at the Frazier History Museum is Flashback: Louisville Media Through the Years, a new temporary exhibition that focuses on the history of media in Louisville and its impact on our lives. You will learn about how media changed and transformed over the years, from Louisville’s first newspaper, the Louisville Public Advertiser, established in 1819, through the new digital media that encompasses our lives today.

Cool Kentucky is designed to bring the state to life in all of its many facets. The exhibit inspires thought, provides insight, and brings understanding about who we are, how we came to be, and where we can go. Those who experience it will be motivated to see Kentucky for themselves — taking in the state’s many attractions, sights, sounds, and tastes, from north to south and east to west.

The Frazier History Museum strongly believes that every county possesses a unique and incredible story deserving to be shared with the rest of Kentucky (and beyond). Premised on this conviction, the 120: Cool KY Counties project is collecting hundreds of stories from across the Commonwealth—including histories, legends, and oral traditions curated at the local level.

Featuring an array of objects, replicas, and walk-in installations, The Commonwealth: Divided We Fall takes visitors on a winding journey through the lives of everyday Kentuckians, from pre-settlement to the early 1900s.

The 1950s and 1960s were a time of modernization in America. Many families began moving to the suburbs and the nation was captivated by the Space Race. The economy was booming, and more people had purchasing power than ever before. Design of the time reflected this rapid modernization.

The Stewart Historic Miniatures Collection at the Frazier History Museum is one of the largest collections of historic miniatures on permanent public display in the world.

Visitors of all ages are taken on an immersive, educational adventure that puts them face-to-face with some of the many challenges encountered by the Corps of Discovery, seeking passage to the northwest. Visitors forge rivers and cross mountains while encountering new people, cultures, and fantastic new species of animals. There are several artifacts from the period and detailed explanations on how and why they were used by the expedition.

On March 9, 2018, the Frazier Museum opened the Founder’s Gallery, a permanent addition dedicated to the museum’s founder, local philanthropist Owsley Brown Frazier.

The Frazier’s permanent collection features a wide array of historically significant artifacts of American, American Indian, Asian, and European origin. Rare and noteworthy objects include Teddy Roosevelt’s “Big Stick,” Geronimo’s bow and arrows, a surplus grave marker from the Battle of Little Bighorn, a first edition copy of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and the arrest warrant issued for Mary Todd Lincoln.

KentuckyShow! explores the ways in which Kentucky’s past, present, and choices for the future converge to create an utterly unique and engaging place. Viewers get to experience the people, sights, and sounds of the state woven together in a high-definition production that will excite your senses and steal your heart!
